LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Park Plaza Mall has announced its "Youth Escort Program."

The new policy means those under 17 years old will be required to have a supervisor or guardian over 21 years old with them on Friday and Saturday nights after 5. The policy goes into effect on April 7.

Mall officials said volume of unsupervised youth and inappropriate behavior has become a challenge for the mall on those specific nights.

"It's not a ban. It's a youth escort program. We want customers, we want shoppers. We want teenagers here, we have retailers that love the teenagers. We just want them supervised,” said Park Plaza’s General Manager Lance Ivy.

Those under 17 who work at the mall will still be allowed to work after 5 p.m. The mall will issue ID cards for easier access to those who are underage.
