YELL CO., Ark. (KTHV) - The Arkansas State Police have named the two other victims who were allegedly shot and killed by James Bowden on Thursday.
Police identified them as 61-year-old Rita Miller and 17-year-old Ciera Miller. Both women were residents of Yell County and were killed after Lieutnenant Kevin Mainhart was shot during a traffic stop.
The chain of events began around 7:00 a.m. when Mainhart initiated a traffic stop at the junction of State Highway 27 and Slo Fork Road. Mainhart later died from the injuries he sustained during the shooting. He was on his way to a disturbance call on the 12000 block of Gum Springs Road.
When police arrived at that location they found the bodies of the two women outside the home.
During the five hour standoff with police, Bowden held one woman hostage inside a residence who was eventually released before his surrender and arrest. We will not name that woman out of respect for her and her family.
Bowden is currently in custody and being held at the Conway County jail. His bond hearing is set for Monday where he faces three charges of capital murder. He will appear in court on May 25 at the Dardanelle District Court.
