LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Riverfest lineup has a lot of music fans talking this year. 14 artists including Wiz Khalifa, Billy Currington, and Cage the Elephant were announced Tuesday.

Organizers say they are taking a different approach to Riverfest for their 40th year. They're trying a new approach to change Riverfest and hopefully draw in more crowds.

“More current obviously, which is really what we were going for,” said DeAnna Korte, Executive Director of Riverfest.

Organizers said they're trying to attract younger crowds than in past years by bringing more current artists to the stage.

“We feel like we've taken more steps up in bringing some of these bands that you would not see in Arkansas," said Korte.

Korte said attendance last year was 150,000. This year, they hope to get up to 200,000.

“You obviously have to earn the respect of the entertainment community and they have to feel that this is a festival they feel worthy of playing at," said Korte.

Radio host Chad Heritage has been sharing music with Arkansans for 20 years.

“They've had Lynyrd Skynyrd in the past and some older acts in the past but it seems a little more current this year," said Heritage. “It’s still kind of an experiment, they just started doing that last year and this year. They had a good crowd last year, I think this year is going to be bigger and better.”

Riverfest will take place from June 1 through June 4 at the River Market. Tickets are on sale now for $40. More artists on the lineup have not yet been announced. More Arkansan musicians are expected to be added to the lineup.
