Royal wedding takes THV11 to England...Arkansas

No, there's no royalty here. Just good people living in small town Arkansas.

ENGLAND, Ark. (KTHV) – England is home to the royal family and the much anticipated royal wedding, but what about England, Arkansas?

"Everybody speaks at you wave at you blow at you. It's just that kind of town,” Patricia Carter-Lewis said.

England is thousands of miles away from the country of England.

"Been there. It's not London, England,” Marion Harp said.

But you can bet the people who live here get a lot of slack for the name.

"They make the statement…You from London, England? You don't sound like it! I say well I'm from the waters, the Arkansas River!" Carter-Lewis said.

Derrell Ratliff is one of the only barber's left in town. He has cut hair for over 50 years.

He said it is actually named after a man from central Arkansas.

"His name was England and that's how it got its name from that family,” Ratliff said.

Although the town isn't exactly named after London, England, they've still managed to have fun with it, naming their streets Cambridge Drive and Windsor Court.

"If you want out of the fast paced and into a lot slower paced this is the place to come,” Harp said.

Peaceful is the perfect way to describe this place.

"That's the way I like it. Quiet and peaceful,” Ratliff said.

And no, there's no royalty here. Just good people living in small town Arkansas.

"We're 18 miles from the freeway so it's just a skip and a hop. Depends on how fast you drive,” Carter-Lewis said.
