SEARCY, Ark. (KTHV) -- White county is a dry county, but three restaurants in Searcy are hoping to change that.
The Rock House, El Almacen, and Colton's have each applied for a liquor license, but the ABC Board denied El Almacen's request. Robert McAdams lives in Searcy and said he doesn't understand the issue.
“I don't personally have a problem with people drinking here in town or it being sold here. I don't drink but if the overwhelming majority of the people don't want it that's fine by me, if I want to drink I can go somewhere else,” he said.
President of the Searcy Chamber of Commerce, Buck Layne, said the chamber supports these restaurants. He said the chamber feels it would be a positive influence on development in the city and they will continue to keep pushing for applications of alcohol sales in Searcy.
We reached out to all three restaurants for comment; Colton's didn't get back to us and El Almacen and The Rock House declined an interview, but said they will continue to push the ABC and hope to have their licenses soon. The owner of El Amacen said they will appeal the ABC's decision and try again.
The ABC is expected to make a decision for the other restaurants sometime in July.
