SHERWOOD, Ark. (KTHV) -- Before the Fourth of July holiday, THV11 told you that this can be a tough time for animal shelters.
Things are desperate at the shelter in Sherwood. A huge influx of stray or surrendered cats and dogs in the last six weeks has the shelter at capacity.
Sherwood Animal Shelter holds free adoption event Saturday, Monday
To try to help, they had a free adoption clinic Saturday. They managed to find new homes for two dogs Saturday, but at this rate they may have another event Monday.
Volunteers explained why things get hairy at this time of year.
“They get lots, especially after the fourth of July holiday or they just give the cat. They get out and they're not spaying and neutering, and that's one thing we encourage,” said Sally Mears, a volunteer at the shelter.
The shelter took in 51 dogs and 49 cats last month. Already this month, it has taken in 20 dogs and 14 cats. To visit their website click here.
