LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- The next Summer Olympics aren't scheduled until 2020. But there's a different type of Olympics that happened Wednesday, right here in Central Arkansas.

The West Central Community Center held something special for the older generation Wednesday by hosting a bean bag tournament! It's part of the Arkansas Senior Olympics.

The Arkansas Senior Olympics are a chance for elders in Central Arkansas to take part in physical activity, and possibly even qualify for the National Senior Olympics. One organizer said the event is important for more than one reason.

"They've paid their taxes, they live in their homes and they support the younger population that we have in our city. So it's very important that we have activities that they can engage in, in their own communities where they don't have to travel," said Doris Wright, City Director for Ward 6.

The event is normally held in Hot Springs, but Wright hopes it will be back in Little Rock from now on.
