CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - Finding your first job right out of college can be a difficult experience and that includes finding the right outfit to nail the interview.
One college in central Arkansas is helping students look the part to land their dream job.
“The anxiety is a level that cannot even be explained,” said Karmiesha Smith, a senior at University of Central Arkansas.
Smith now has a little help thanks to the WOW Closet.
“WOW Closet" stands for World of Work. Any student can come in and get one free outfit a year to wear to on campus interviews, to the career fair and sometimes they have it for their presentations in their classes,” said Marie Smallwood, Associate Director of Career Services at UCA.
The WOW closet has something for everyone in a variety of sizes, including pants, dresses, shoes and jewelry.
“We have anything you can wear that goes from business casual to business professional. The UCA community donates clothes. We love it when our Board of Trustees donates clothes because they are the really nice clothes and suits, but then we have local churches and the community that donate,” said Smallwood.
For students on a budget like Smith, the closet has been a valuable resource in the search for a career.
“I've used the WOW closet for the career fairs we have at school, anchoring for news 6 at our school. I've come here for a blazer or two,” said Smith. “There was definitely a lot of variety, for the smaller sizes or the bigger sizes. Depending on what you want to wear.”
The WOW closet is located on the 4th floor of Bernard Hall and is open Monday through Thursday 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Both students and alumni can get one outfit per academic year.
The UCA Career Services Department also helps with resumes, mock interviews and how to navigate career fairs.
