3 victims identified in head-on collision involving two 18-wheelers in Lonoke County

The accident happened on Interstate 40. The highway and transportation department said the trucks are leaking diesel fuel.

LONOKE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) – Three people are dead following a head-on collision involving two 18-wheelers in Lonoke County.

According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation, the accident happened on Interstate 40 in Carlisle. According to the accident report, a 2016 Peterbilt 18-wheeler was traveling east on I-40 and a 2019 Freightliner 18-wheeler was traveling west on I-40. The Peterbilt crossed the median into the westbound traffic and hit the Freightliner head-on.

Jerry Stice, 64, of Westville, Oklahoma was the driver of the Peterbilt. Jesus Escareno, 47, of Houston, Texas was the driver of the Freightliner and his passenger was 55-year-old Mark Lynch of Magnolia, Texas. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway and transportation department said the trucks had leaked diesel fuel following the crash. The westbound lanes on I-40 were closed and all traffic was diverted to Highway 70 at the 193-mile marker in Hazen.

No word yet on what caused the Peterbilt to cross the median. The accident report states the weather was sunny and the roads were dry.
