National Weather Service confirms that several tornadoes hit the Mid-South Friday night

The worst damage was found in Northeastern Arkansas and Northwest Tennessee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Survey teams from the National Weather Service in Memphis found that several tornadoes hit the Mid-South late Friday night.

The first tornado touched down in Eastern Arkansas near Weiner and moved northeast, hitting the communities of Monette and Leachville. This is where EF-4 damage was found, with winds of 170 mph.

A total of five people were killed in this tornado, and at least one person was injured.

One person was killed at the Monette Manor Nursing Home, and another killed when the Dollar General in Leachville collapsed.

This same tornado moved through the Missouri Bootheel, Northwest Tennessee, and well into Kentucky.

Many are referring to this as the "quad-state tornado", since it passed through four states - Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

A bit later, a second tornado touched down near Trumann, Arkansas, and also moved to the northeast, passing near Blytheville and Dyersburg in the process.

This tornado caused damage of EF-3 strength between Newbern and Dresden in Northwest Tennessee. Winds in this tornado were also estimated to be over 136 mph at times.

No fatalities have been reported from this second tornado.

Three additional tornadoes were confirmed in Poinsett County, Arkansas. Two of them were EF-0's and the third was an EF-2.

There were also four tornadoes in West Tennessee. Three of them were in Madison, Henderson, and Decatur counties. The fourth was a long track tornado that traveled through Dyer, Gibson, Weakley and Henry counties. That tornado continued into Middle Tennessee and went into Kentucky.

In Mississippi, there was an EF-1 tornado that traveled 4.5 miles near New Site in Prentiss County.
