LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — With severe weather coming through the state, it's probably a good idea to brush up on the differences between some of the alerts you may receive on your phone.
It can be stressful trying to figure out what a watch or warning means, so hopefully we can help reduce that stress for you.
Tornado Watch:
- A tornado watch is issued when conditions are favorable for any storms that could turn dangerous.
- These storms have the potential to produce damaging winds, large hail or a tornado.
Tornado Warning:
- A tornado warning is issued when meteorologists with the National Weather Service see rotation on a Doppler radar.
- This doesn't mean a tornado has been confirmed, but that a tornado could form at any moment.
- If there is a warning in your area please get to safety and warns others if possible.
Another thing to remember as the storms make their way through the state is that there is a chance of flash flooding.
The biggest chance would be between Friday evening and into Saturday morning.
Flash flooding is possible for small creeks, streams, low lying areas, and poor drainage locations.
Make sure you have cleaned any debris out of storm drains that are near your property.
