CONWAY, Ark. (April 19, 2012) - National research has shown that positive relationships between children and adult mentors have a direct and measurable impact on a child's life. That's what Big Brothers Big Sisters is all about.

'Cinco De Mayo Fiesta for a Cause' is the largest fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Central Arkansas. It will be held Thursday, May 3 from 6-10 p.m. at Backacher's Ranch Equestrian Center (located at 3799 Shock Loop in Conway).

Everyone is invited to an evening of music, dancing food and fun. All guests will enjoy a silent and live auction, entertainment by Breaking Eden and fiesta-inspired cuisine.

Funds raised by Cinco de Mayo Fiesta for a Cause are used to recruit new volunteers to serve children, paying for background screening and reference checks, interviewing new volunteers and monitoring their relationship with the child.

Children served with a mentor are proven to do better in school, avoid drugs and violence, and increase in their self-confidence.

Paula Swindle with Big Brothers Big Sisters has seen first hand the change being a mentor can make in a young child's life.

"Just for my little, when we first started meeting together it was just casual conversation and she was a little shy," says Swindle. "And now going to her every week, she comes up and gives me a great big hug. I can see communication skills are improving and that's just with one of our littles."

Tickets for the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta are $45.00 per ticket or $500.00 per reserved table for 10. To purchase a ticket or table, donate, or for more information on how to become a BIG, please call 336-9505 or visit www.bigbrothersbigsistersnca.org.
