Parvo in puppies: What you need to know

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – Before you get a puppy, always speak to your vet first to make sure you have all the answers before you buy.

Dr. Bob Hale with the Briarwood Animal Hospital shared some advice on "THV 11 This Morning" on what you should do before you bring a puppy home.

According to the ASPCA, parvo, short for parvovirus, is "a highly contagious viral disease that can produce a life-threatening illness." Symptoms include lethargy, severe vomiting, loss of appetite and bloody, foul-smelling diarrhea that can lead to life-threatening dehydration.

For more on parvo, you can check out the ASPCA's website.
