Today's Home: easy roses

You know I have a love, hate relationship with roses.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- You know I have a love, hate relationship with roses.

For several reasons. Number one, most rose varieties you’ve got to prune off dead flowers and dead head them. Then you’ve got to fertilize them and there are lots of different types of disease out there and insects, so you’ve got to spray them constantly.

But when I do my own landscape designs I do use a few different varieties. For example, I use the knock out roses, which are all the rage right now because they are a shrub rose and you basically don’t have to do anything to them except for water them and trim them back here and there. They will bloom almost for months and months and months every day.

But another type of rose that I really enjoy using is called Drift Rose. The Drift Rose is a kind of ground cover rose. So if you have a nice hot sunny spot and you want something that is going to bloom for six months during the growing season if you’re in the South that looks this beautiful for Spring, Summer and Fall then you might want to try the Drift Roses.

Plus they come in an assortment of different colors. They come in coral. They come in an orange. I also use red, which is a very tough variety. They come in white. They come in pink, also yellow. So there is a color for everyone out there.

Remember full sun, keep them moist with good drainage, they will bloom months and months and months on time. So if you’re looking for the perfect rose, either the Knock Out or the Drift Rose.
