Dog missing for 3 years reunited with Rogers family

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – A dog that was missing for more than three years has been reunited with his family.

Kernel the terrier ran away from his Rogers home in November of 2014. His owner Meredith Hanks and her family searched for him for months, eventually giving up hope that they would ever see him again.

But last week, the Jonesboro Humane Society called her to say someone had brought in a dog and after scanning his chip, they found her information.

“He was kind of an escape artist, so he'd gotten out actually before we had him chipped. He'd gotten out a couple of times and then the animal shelter encouraged us to get him chipped. So thankfully they did that the last time before he got out,” said Hanks.

Hanks says it will be an adjustment for Kernel, because in the past three years, her family has moved, had another baby and even gotten another dog.
