While law enforcement in Floresville say that they were looking for an active shooting around 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, police now say that it's unlikely that there were any shots fired or that there was a shooting.
An all-clear was given about an hour after the initial reports of the shooting surfaced.
"What we have determined is that it was probably a false alarm. We don't believe that we had an active shooting whatsoever. We found no evidence of such," said Lt. Jesse Evins with the Floresville Police Department. "One person believed they saw one person with a gun, another person saw a person believing it to be the same person and then heard some noises that they thought could've been gunshots, but their description led investigators to believe that it was probably not gunfire."
But before investigators could find evidence, they had to figure out what, if anything, happened. Police responded to the area near a Floresville nursing home in full force, deploying a dog, a chopper, multiple officers, deputies, and federal law enforcement.

The presence of Vice President Mike Pence, who was attending the vigil at Floresville High School, as well as other top government officials, guaranteed more law enforcement to the area.
“The response was overwhelming with the amount of law enforcement in the area, which was good,” Lt. Evins said.
Just as the news crews were getting ready to clarify with Evins what actually took place at the nursing home, police received another report of a man with a gun nearby and a rushed to get him.
Police said a man had two weapons, a pistol and an AR-15.
“His explanation was he was reacting to the first incident and a veteran wanted to protect the veteran’s home,” Lt. Evins said. “It being close to the vicinity of the first incident.”
Lt. Evins didn’t name the man, he wasn’t charged with anything. His guns were taken temporarily while police check out his story.
"Nerves are probably shot to a large extent, so things that may appear to be small or may have appeared to be minor prior to [the Sutherland Springs shooting] take on a different meaning," Lt. Evins said. "We put fears to sleep as far as that's concerned."
