Two White Hall students arrested after handgun found in backpack

After a handgun was found in a student's backpack, two White Hall students have been arrested for possession of the handgun on school premises.

WHITE HALL, Ark. (KTHV) - Two White Hall High School students were arrested on Wednesday after a handgun was found in a student's backpack.

White Hall Superintendent Doug Dorris told THV11 a student came to the principal about another student having a gun. The student in question was called into the office and school officials searched their bag. According to Dorris, a handgun was found inside.

After more questioning, school officials determined there was another student involved in bringing the gun on campus. The police department was called and both teens were arrested.

In a letter to the parents and staff, the superintendent said, "I am extremely proud that our staff followed our proper training protocol thus minimizing any threat to our staff and students. As unfortunate as this incident was, our first and upmost priority was the safety of our students and staff."

No charges have been filed at this time.
