Pulaski County schools seek public input on superintendent search

The Pulaski County Special School District will weigh public opinion in their superintendent search.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) — Pulaski County Special School District is asking the community to give feedback that will shape their superintendent search. Two surveys are available on the District's website.

PCSSD's board voted to fire Superintendent Jerry Guess on July 18. The board said they were out of the loop in regard to some of Guess's deals. Guess had filed a motion that could have resulted in the loss of the district's boundaries.

The District contracted Ray and Associates of Cedar Rapids, Iowa to coordinate their superintendent search. On Monday, Jan 22, they presented a plan for the search. The first phase is the launch of the community surveys.

The surveys are called "Community District Review" and "Qualities Desired in the New Superintendent."

In the “Community District Review” survey, PCSSD stakeholders have the ability to rate the school district in a number of areas including how well the district is addressing the achievement gap, the social and emotional needs of students and preparing its students for college or career.

The “Qualities desired in the new superintendent” allows stakeholders to specify what traits they would most like to see in the new, permanent superintendent, according to a press release from the PCSSD.

The surveys will remain open through the end of the month. There are options for both English- and Spanish-language surveys. The surveys should take less than five minutes to complete together.
