TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - A bill moving through the Florida House would create private school scholarships for bullied public school students.
House Bill 1, The Hope Scholarship Program, passed through the House PreK-12 Innovation Subcommittee on Wednesday in a 9-5 vote and is now in the House PreK-12 Appropriations Subcommittee.
To qualify, the student must be a victim of battery, harassment, hazing, bullying, kidnapping, physical attack, robbery, sexual offenses, harassment, assault or battery, threat or intimidation or fighting.
The scholarship would also cover transportation costs if the student decides to attend a public school in another district.
If passed, the program would go into effect during the 2018-19 school year.
