Arkansas businesses offering jobs after Dixie Cafe closings

If you worked at Dixie Cafe and need another job you might be in luck!

If you worked at Dixie Cafe and need another job you might be in luck!

The 35 year old chain is closing this week, leaving its employees without a job. But now several restaurants in the central Arkansas area are accepting applications for the unemployed workers.

Home Plate Diner, Larry’s Pizza, and Dickies Barbeque in Bryant are all accepting applications as well as Rendezvous Formal Wear in Benton.

“My first thought was we don't have anywhere to eat after church on Sunday,” said Greg White, owner of Larry’s Pizza.

He and thousands of others across the state are saying goodbye to a southern favorite.

Dixie Restaurants Incorporated is closing all 17 Dixie and Delta Café locations in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.

“You hate for people to lose their job at any time, but especially during the Christmas season,” said Nick Gann, owner of Home Plate Diner.

After more than three decades of service, the chain blames declining sales combined with increasing costs for its decision.

“Well at first I wondered what did they do that caused their business to drop or not increase the way they needed it to,” said Gann. He thinks it's important for restaurants to figure out what will keep customers coming back.

Sometimes, as displayed this week, southern comfort food isn't enough.

“To come in and say, 'Hey, this is going to be your last day at work in the middle of December,' I thought surely we can do something to help. We're in the industry and are close to that. What can we offer, how can we help them, and most importantly how can they help us,” Gann added.

His diner is looking to fill five new positions.

And Larry's Pizza in Bryant will take anywhere between three to five new employees.

"I know it's going to be tough for a lot of families out there to support their kids and make sure they have a good Christmas,” said White.

The restaurant has multiple other locations jobs seekers can contact as well.

"I've been blessed with a good business and I'm always looking for new help. First thing I thought of when they're losing 40 to 50 employees over there, is that maybe we can help them out too right here at Christmas time with a job,” White said.

Along with Home Plate Diner and Larry’s Pizza, Rendezvous Formal Wear in Benton is looking to fill 3 to 5 new positions. Dickies Barbeque in Bryant needs one really strong guy.

If you fit the bill, head over and apply.
