Coco headlines the list of new movies in theaters this week

From the director of Toy Story 3 and Finding Nemo, Coco makes its debut in theaters this weekend along with a few other promising stories.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Thanksgiving weekend is usually a big weekend for movies. Between Black Friday shopping and finding something for families to do, movies are a good escape. If you’re out this weekend, there’s a wide range of films to see. Thor:Ragnarok, Justice League, Daddy’s Home 2, Wonder, and Murder On The Orient Express are still in theaters but there are a few new ones, led by the latest from Pixar. Let’s look at those new ones…

Disney/Pixar's Coco

From Disney/Pixar and the director of Toy Story 3 and Finding Nemo comes Coco. Despite his family's baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector and together they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history. Coco is rated PG for thematic elements and is voiced by newcomer Anthony Gonzalez, Benjamin Bratt, and Gael García Bernal.

Roman J. Israel, Esq.

Roman J. Israel, Esq. is a dramatic thriller set in the underbelly of the overburdened Los Angeles criminal court system. Denzel Washington stars as a driven, idealistic defense attorney whose life is upended when a turbulent series of events challenge the activism that has defined his career. Colin Farrell costars as the ambitious, monied lawyer who recruits Roman to his firm. Roman J. Israel, Esq. is rated PG-13 for language and some violence.

Lady Bird

In Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice with her directorial debut, excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter. Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson fights against but is exactly like her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom who is a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird's father loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home. Lady Bird is rated R for language, sexual content, brief graphic nudity and teen partying and stars Saoirse Ronan, Laurie Metcalf, and Tracy Letts.

The Man Who Invented Christmas

The Man Who Invented Christmas tells of the magical journey that led to the creation of Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and other classic characters from A Christmas Carol. The film shows how Charles Dickens mixed real life inspirations with his vivid imagination to conjure up unforgettable characters and a timeless tale, forever changing the holiday season into the celebration we know today. The Man Who Invented Christmas is rated PG for thematic elements and some mild language and stars Christopher Plummer and Dan Stevens.
