Gold Medal Kids: Arkansas students fight bullying, save animals

In Wednesday's Gold Medal Kids segment, we featured two amazing young girls

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- All this week, we are featuring “Gold Medal Kids,” the best of the younger generation, showing the kids who are working to change the world someday.

On Wednesday, we featured two amazing young girls.

Ellie Russell is a 5th grader at Hill Farm Elementary in Bryant. She and a few of her friends observed others not including a special needs student during recess and lunch, so Ellie made it her mission to end bullying and promote being kind to others.

She led a group of friends and approached her principal about making and posting posters about the issue.

The students were given materials and now, two mornings a week, students make “kindness posters” to help change the way students treat each other at school. Way to go Ellie!

We also featured Kidist Brown, an 8th grader at Cabot Junior High North.

Kidist was adopted from Ethiopia when she was seven years old and came to the U.S. speaking no English. This did not stop her from becoming an excellent student and community volunteer.

She takes advanced classes, runs on the cross country/track team, and helps rescue animals with her family.

Way to be brave and not let anything hold you back!

These students show that it doesn't matter how old you are, you can make a big difference in the lives of people around you.
