UA-Little Rock investigating incident where several students sing racial slur

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is investigating an incident where several white students sang a racial slur on a bus.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is investigating an incident where several white students sang a racial slur on a bus.

In the video, which has been shared across social media, several students sing along to Lil Dicky's "Freaky Friday".

During the song, Lil Dicky inhabits the body of Chris Brown and questions if he can say the n-word. Lil Dicky then begins to use the word without in the song while he is Chris Brown. Throughout the video, Lil Dicky begins to inhabit the bodies of other musicians as well.

The university released a statement on its Facebook page saying it is investigating people with two Greek organizations, Chi Omega and Pi Kappa Alpha, over the "racially insensitive incident."

"There is no place for racial discrimination at UA Little Rock," Chancellor Andrew Rogerson said in the statement.

While the investigation continues, both Greek organizations have been "restricted in their participation in campus programs and activities."

Rogerson said the school is "taking this situation very seriously because it violates every principle for which we stand."

Students have been invited to attend a talk with campus representatives at the Anderson Institute. The discussion will focus on race and ethnicity. It is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, April 20.

Brian Gregory, president of the university’s Student Government Association, called the video unacceptable. However, he hopes it can serve as a turning point on campus.

“My hope is that this leads to more positive change on campus and a change in our culture, a change in the way we approach issues on this campus, and I think it will,” Gregory said.

The national fraternity and sorority organizations of the Chi Omega and Pi Kappa Alpha are conducting their own investigations as well.

A representative for Chi Omega stated the Chi Omega Executive Headquarters is currently working with their chapter leadership and school officials.

"All Chi Omega Sisters are educated on expectations for membership and, as a condition of membership, each individual is expected to be respectful of one another and display personal integrity at all times, including on social media," the statement said.

The International Fraternity of Pi Kappa Alpha released a statement saying they support the university's efforts and will hold individual members accountable.
