Craig’s Reading Roadtrip encounters a revolt of crayons

The latest stop on Craig's Reading Roadtrip takes us to Oak Grove Elementary!

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - On Tuesday April 24, Miss Mathis’ third grade class at Oak Grove Elementary heard Craig O’Neill read the wonderful book: The Day The Crayons Quit.

It’s the story crayons are fed up with how they’re used and abused and they let the little boy that owns them know about it. His name is Duncan.

Even though these were third graders and they’re getting into chapter books, they seemed to enjoy this picture book which naturally is very colorful. Why shouldn’t it be? It’s the story of crayons. But, it’s also the story of resolving a conflict.

And once the story was read, Craig asked the class how they would solve the issue of a box of dissatisfied Crayolas. Craig got a lot of great ideas, but at Oak Grove, creativity is on display everywhere, with poetry and essays adorning the walls. Amazing how books can ignite meaningful conversation and solutions.
