One district, one book initiative kicks off at Jefferson Elementary

It's called "One District, One Book" and for the second year in a row the Little Rock District is making it happen.

It’s called “One District, One Book” and for the second year in a row the Little Rock School District is making it happen.

Thanks to the Downtown Little Rock Rotary Club, area banks, and reading foundations, every child in the system will get a copy of “Cleopatra Edison Oliver, Playground Millionaire”.

It’s the story of a fifth grader who dreams of being a business mogul and comes up with several ideas that will put her on her life’s journey. Along the way she encounters relationship challenges with parents, siblings, classmates, and even her dog. It’s fun, bizarre, comical, sweet and at times sentimental.

The reason the Rotary Club got behind it was to teach financial literacy, but there’s more to this novel. Our own Craig O’Neill has read it and in fact, read the first chapter to the entire school at Jefferson Elementary.

Craig gives it gives it his full endorsement and joins with the school system urging parents and kids to read one chapter a day (20 minutes max).

One book, one district, one heck of an experience.
