Sweet treats & trolley rides; sibling duo dreams of forever family

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - A brother and sister spent the day together riding the trolley and eating ice cream in downtown Little Rock. Normally Julia and Cody's days are spent separated in foster care. But, this duo hopes to find a forever family, together.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Growing up in foster care is clearly not the goal for hundreds of children up for adoption in Arkansas, but that is often what happens.

Year after year, children sit in homes, hoping for a call that someone out there says “yes” to them. Julia, 10, and Cody, 8, are two who've been waiting for five years.

The brother and sister are nearly inseparable. They never left each other’s side on their adventure with Dawn Scott and crew. The journey started aboard the Rock Region Metro trolley. On the ride, their adoption specialist Melanie Phillips accompanied us.

"My goal for these two kiddos is adoption, I'm hoping they find their forever home," Phillips said they want to be together. "Because they have a bond and that's all they have left, is each other. So it's very important to try to keep them together if we can."

Right now, they live in separate foster homes. It’s been that way on and off for nearly five years. Phillips told us the siblings miss each other. After the trolley ride, we hit Loblolly Creamery for some ice cream.

"My favorite is chocolate! Chocolate!" the children said.

Sweet treats to cool off for two children who dream of a life beyond foster care.

"I wanna be a veterinarian or a doctor! A power ranger!" they shared.

The two precious siblings enjoyed a day together, and pray it stayed that way forever. "Yeah, what do you think about this day?" Dawn Scott asked. "Awesome," they said. “At this point, two-parent family, a single family we're just looking for a family, someone to love these kids and call them their own," Phillips told us.

We’d like to thank Rock Region Metro for the trolley ride. Rides are free through the month of December. Also, thanks to Loblolly Creamery for the sweet frozen treats.
