Veterans with no place to go band together for Thanksgiving

Food was provided by the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association to nearly 60 veterans supported by the St. Francis House.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Many veterans in need who would otherwise not have a place to go for Thanksgiving Day came together for a Thanksgiving meal provided by the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association.

"I didn’t have anywhere else to spend it or other family to spend it with," said veteran Jerry Langston who is thankful to be a part of the dinner.

At the St Francis House, nearly 60 veterans who otherwise may not get a Thanksgiving meal, were reminded that they’re the ones we’re all thankful for. This is the second year the Association has organized this dinner and they hope to make it an annual event.

"These veterans know they have someone out there fighting for them who is here for them," said Beverly Waddell with the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association.

James Tate enjoys having his Thanksgiving dinner surrounded by other vets.

"This is such a wonderful thing for me and probably for others because I didn’t have anywhere else to go," said Tate, "It's a wonderful thing."

They’re thankful for things we often take for granted.

“I’m thankful that God has given me a chance every morning he wakes me up, to get it right," said Tate.

"Waking up this morning," said Langston.

“Second chances,” said another vet.

As all of us think about what we're thankful for, these vets remind us what the real gift is.
