Pro-Life advocates march on the Capitol

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - It was a peaceful and prayerful event with hundreds marching for the same purpose: Life.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - All had similar messages of respecting human life.

“There's no more important issue, than the issue of life,” said Lt. Governor Griffin.

It was a peaceful and prayerful event with hundreds marching for the same purpose: Life.

“The miracle of life is one the greatest gifts God has given us and we need to protect it,” Griffin added.

The annual March for Life and its state organization have been working to end legal abortion since the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision in 1972.

According to Governor Hutchinson, Arkansas is one of the top two pro-life states in the nation.

"Fourty-five years ago tomorrow will mark the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision that changed the fabric of our nation,” said Attorney General Rutledge.

She was the keynote speaker at today’s event and takes pride in helping to lead this fight at the state capitol and courts.

Several pro-life bills have already been passed in Arkansas in the past seven years.

“It's been my honor to defend those bills. Good lawyers argue just with their heads, but great lawyers argue with their hearts. It's my honor to argue with my head and my heart on behalf of the unborn,” said Rutledge.

The group hopes through education and continued political action that the number of abortions will decline.

And to those on the other side of this issue, Griffin thinks technology can combat any disagreement.

"I have a two and half week-old child. When you see that young child, as it develops in the womb, it is so very clear that there is a human being,” he said.

One notable absence from the march was Bishop Anthony Taylor, the head of the Catholic Diocese in Little Rock.

He announced last week his opposition to Attorney General Rutledge being the keynote speaker. The Bishop opposed her role in the state's executions last April.

He instead held a Mass to mark the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.
