CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - Small businesses near Conway said they will feel the effect of an estimated 500 layoffs announced by Hewlett-Packard Monday.
"It's just really heart wrenching," said Rhonda Jones, a waitress with O'Henry's Restaurant in Conway.
Jones said she has several regular customers who may be out of a job.
"We're all trying to struggle and survive, and [it] seems like the more we try and the harder we try, the more we get pushed back," said Jones.
Brad Lacy with the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce said while the loss of 500 jobs will make an impact on the area, he does not feel any small business will shut down as a result of the layoffs.
"I don't think you'll see small businesses go out of business," said Lacy, though he admits the area will see a reduction in retail business.
According to the Conway Chamber of Commerce, a job fair for the 500 displaced employees will take place on July 19 at the UCA Ball Room from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
