A new online education initiative meant to target adult students will be considered at the University of Arkansas' Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday. The plan, developed by UA System President Donald Bobbitt and his staff, would expand a consortium of UA System campuses to participate in planning an online university, which would offer a limited number of degree programs designed for adults looking for the flexibility of an online education.
American companies operating in China expect slower revenue growth, investment and expansion this year, according to a survey conducted by the American Chamber of Commerce in China. The tempered expectations underscore just how challenging U.S. firms can find conditions in the world's second biggest economy. The survey found heightened concerns over intellectual property, the safety of proprietary data and government-sponsored campaigns against foreign firms operating in the country.
Pandora will soon raise the cost of its ad-free subscription music streaming service. Citing higher costs due to royalty fees, Pandora (P) is raising its "Pandora One" subscription price to $4.99 a month, up $1 from its previous rate. It is also doing away with its $36 annual subscription. The company said the new monthly rate will go into effect in May for newcomers. Existing annual customers will get a dollar-per-month discount, but that will still come out to more than they were paying before.
Oprah loves tea, and Howard Schultz loves Oprah. So the two came together to create the Oprah Chai Tea, which will be sold at Starbucks (SBUX, Fortune 500) stores and the company's Teavana locations. Oprah said she spent time with the company's "teaologists" to create the blend. "I think we got it right," she said. All proceeds from the tea sales will go to charities that help youth education. This is the first time Oprah has lent her name to a brand, said Schultz, while speaking at Wednesday's annual shareholder meeting.
