DADE CITY, Fla. - A 10-year-old boy was alert and talking after being shot in the head Monday afternoon.
The incident happened at about 3 p.m. on the 38800 block of Old Sparkman Road.
The child was home alone with his 9-year-old brother when they found a gun, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.
It was not immediately known where the boys found the gun or who fired it.
Afterwards, the boys walked across the street to Amairani Luna's home.
"He was holding the side of his head with a towel," she said of the 10-year-old. "The brother that wasn't hurt, he was scared more than the one that was actually shot. The other one was more calm but he was in pain."
The victim was alert and talking when he was taken to the hospital, deputies said.
No further information was immediately available.
