Officers were dispatched to the area after getting a call about shots fired.
While circulating the area, the officers made contact with a large group of people around Hub Cap Anny's.
Officer then found Zachary Smith lying on his back with an apparent gunshot wound to his side. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead just before 4 a.m.
Homicide detectives and CSSU personnel were called and responded to the scene. Detectives spoke with witnesses who stated that there was a large group of people and that Smith had began "tussling" with a black male subject.
During the altercation, two gunshots were fired and a black male who was fighting with Smith pointing a gun at the crowd.
At approximately 5:45 a.m. Sunday morning, Tremayne Washington responded to the Little Rock Police Department. Washington was taken into custody as a suspect in the death of Zachary Smith.
Washington is charged with first degree murder and possession of firearms by certain persons.
