LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Salvation Army Angel Tree provides Christmas toys and clothing to over 6,000 low-income children in Central Arkansas each year.

This year the Salvation Army is partnering with Toys for Tots and the North Little Rock Fire Department.

This program is unique in the way it allows caring Arkansans to reach out and impact an individual child's life.

"There are a lot of people out there need helping," says Major April Taylor with the Salvation Army. "More people than you would expect that would be your normal clientele. These are people who have lost jobs."

Everyone is invited to the Annual Angel Tree Kick-Off at McCain Mall on today (Nov. 10) at 10 a.m. There will be music from the Lakewood Elementary School choir, and First Lady Ginger Beebe will read a Christmas story and pull the first angel from the tree.

If you would like to adopt an angel this Christmas, you can find trees at Park Plaza Mall, McCain Mall, Wal-Mart or online.

And of course it takes thousands of volunteers to make Christmas special for our community's children each year.  If you would like to help with the Angel Tree, email kathy_barbeire@uss.salvationarmy.org
