    National MS Walk 2011

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- More than 750 walkers will be heading out to the River Market this morning (April 9) to help raise money and awareness for multiple sclerosis.

It's the annual Walk MS, hosted by Arkansas' National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Join the festivities with your friends, family, co-workers and even your canine companions. Participants will enjoy free food and entertainment before and after the event.

Everyone is to meet at the River Market Amphitheater at 10 a.m. The walks starts at 11 a.m. Registration is free and there is no minimum pledge. The Little Rock chapter goal is to raise $80,000.

Multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory disease in which the fatty myelin sheaths around the axons of the brain and spinal cord are damaged, leading to demyelination and scarring as well as a broad spectrum of signs and symptoms. Disease onset usually occurs in young adults, and it is more common in women.
