GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Virginia (CNN) -- Shocking allegations of child abuse leaves a Virginia community stunned, upset, and horrified. As the case unravels it seems there's more questions than answers.

The scene Friday at a Gloucester mobile home on Carrie Lane not only landed 2 parents in jail but has left an entire community scratching their heads.

The shock is over allegations of child abuse. Thursday Gloucester County investigators found a little girl only 5 or 6 years old trapped in a crib. A piece of wood was covering the top as if she was held captive.

Sharon Greene grew up just a few doors down from Shannon Gore, the mother who's now accused of child abuse. She says about 5 years ago she thought gore was pregnant. She says, "I seen her and I spoke long enough to ask her was she pregnant and she said no... I mean, she looked pregnant."

But people who know gore say they never saw the little girl, but they knew she gave birth a month ago.

Shannon gore was arrested along with her husband Brian. Investigators say their caged daughter was suffering of severe starvation. Greene says, "I can't see doing that... innocent little children that can't help themselves and to stop one up like an animal, no."

Friday night investigators were back at the home, based on a tip, digging under the shed, where they uncovered something horrifying, the remains of a child. Police aren't saying how old or if it belongs to the couple.

We went by the parents' homes of both Shannon and Brian. No one answered either door. But people close to the family say they didn't even know the couple had a daughter. The case continues to leave more questions than answers.
