LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Helena West Helena officer Robert Rogers and Marvell officer Robert Wahls are both denied bail. Authorities say they aided drug traffickers by escorting them through town for money.

An FBI agent says Rogers accepted 500 dollars to escort what he thought was a car loaded with cocaine. The agent also said their source is being paid 25-thousand dollars for his aid in this nearly 4 year investigation.

A defense attorney for Rogers brought his two tours of duty in Iraq to light, and said he is a member of the National Guard. The judge said Rogers' history cuts both ways. He said Rogers put his life on the line to end corruption overseas, but came back to his community and allowed corruption to occur.

The defense attorney for Robert Wahls called his sister and fiance to the stand. They both said he is well respected in town. Officials say he took money to protect what he thought was shipments of cocaine.

Rogers and Wahls have a previous connection they both worked at Phillips County Sheriff's office. Authorities say they encountered problems there and took the option of resigning before being terminated. The other three officers indicted in this operation are expected to have bond hearings next week.
