UNDATED (CNN) -- If you want your kids to have an edge in the classroom, have them two years apart.

A new study finds your firstborn may be smarter if there is at least a two-year age gap between siblings.

The study finds parents may spend less time and give less attention to the older child, if there's a smaller age gap between kids.

Researchers say there appeared to be no effect on younger siblings.
