FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas' gymnastics team gets its season underway this week against a schedule which has been rated by CollegeGymFans.com as the third-toughest in the nation.

The Razorbacks compete at the Cancun Classic on Friday against a field including No. 12 LSU, No. 17 Auburn, No. 19 Arizona, No. 25 Iowa and San Jose State, which is receiving votes.

Arkansas, which is coming off a tie for ninth at the 2011 NCAA Championship, is No. 11 in the GymInfo preseason rankings.
"Since day one, that has been our philosophy," co-head coach Mark Cook says of scheduling tough opponents. "We haven't wavered from that and it's served us well."

The rest of Arkansas' schedule includes dual meets with No. 12 LSU and No. 17 Auburn, in addition to meets against No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 6 Nebraska, No. 9 Georgia and No. 23 Kentucky. Missouri and West Virginia, two more dual-meet opponents, are receiving votes.

"It's exciting," co-head coach René Cook says. "By going through those experiences, the postseason isn't intimidating at all because we've already competed against the best competition."

According to CollegeGymFans.com, the teams with the toughest schedules this year are Georgia, Utah, Arkansas, Kentucky and Washington in a tie for fourth, Oregon State, Auburn, LSU, Stanford, and Florida and UCLA tied for 10th.

The Razorbacks' schedule includes six dual meets in Barnhill Arena plus the NCAA South Central Regional on April 7. The regular-season meets include Kentucky on Jan. 13, LSU on Jan. 20, Auburn on Feb. 3, Oklahoma on Feb. 5, Nebraska on Feb. 24 and Minnesota on March 2. Arkansas' inaugural team from 2003 along with other former letter winners will be honored during the LSU meet on Jan. 20.

Reserved season tickets are $40. Youth (18 and under) reserved season tickets are $15. A family pack, which includes two adult and two youth tickets for all six meets, is $75. All family pack seating is on the north side of Barnhill Arena.

Tickets for the NCAA South Central Regional are separate from season tickets, but available for $10 for adults and $5 for youth. A family pack is also available for $25.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the ticket office at 800-982-HOGS (4647) or 479-575-5151. They can also be purchased at ArkansasRazorbacks.com.

Arkansas' gymnastics program is in its 10th season. In nine years, the Razorbacks have earned eight NCAA regional bids, won two NCAA regionals, advanced to the NCAA Championship five times, reached the NCAA Super Six, finished in the top 10 in the nation three times, finished ranked in the top 15 seven consecutive seasons, and produced 28 All-America selections and 13 NCAA individual event finals appearances.

In 2011, the Razorbacks tied for the Southeastern Conference regular-season championship, won the NCAA North Central Regional, tied for ninth in the nation, recorded two wins over No. 1-ranked Florida, beat No. 4 Georgia, and set school records with seven dual-meet wins and four road wins.
