TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - A federal judge has denied a request to move a civil lawsuit against jailed evangelist Tony Alamo from Texarkana.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Susan Hickey rejected a request from Alamo's attorneys for a new trial location. Alamo argues that trying the case in Texarkana wouldn't be fair because potential jurors have already been exposed to publicity regarding the jailed evangelist.

Alamo is serving a 175-year federal sentence on sex-crime convictions. The civil lawsuit was filed in 2010 by six former wives of Alamo and a seventh woman who said she was being groomed to be his wife when she escaped Alamo's house.

David Carter, an attorney for the women, tells the Texarkana Gazette (http://is.gd/1NKjpV ) that he's confident a jury seated in Texarkana could fairly consider the case.
