BRANSON, Mo. (AP/CBS/KOLR/KYTV) - Injuries and significant damage have been reported after a line of possible tornadoes moved across the Midwest.
Especially hard-hit early Wednesday were areas in southwest Missouri, including Branson, Lebanon and Buffalo.
In Branson, Taney County Sheriff Jimmie Russell says there are injuries, though he didn't know how many or how severe. He said searchers are going house to house.
National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Griffin says the apparent tornado moved through downtown Branson, heavily damaging the city's famous theaters. Griffin says numerous injuries have also been reported in Buffalo, where the storm passed through a mobile home park.
Our CBS Affiliate KOLR10 is reporting confirmed damage in about a quarter-mile wide path along Highway 76. They say The Walmart, a Taco Bell, a Mazzio's Pizza and the Blue Bayou Inn all have confirmed damage. There were also reports of damage to some of the music theaters along Branson's famous strip.
Garrett Anderson, Branson's Economic Development Director, told KOLR10 trees were down in many parts of town, including the historic downtown area along Lake Taneycomo.
KOLR10 is reporting one death near Buffalo, MO. Dallas County Emergency Management Director Jason Wendlandt said the death happened near Highway F and South Ash, the center of the worst damage about 2 miles south of Buffalo.
KYTV is reporting damage in Lebanon, where debris was reported to be falling from the sky at 12:30 a.m. and at least one tractor-trailer was reported to be blown off Interstate 44.
Branson and Dallas County R-I schools will not hold class today due to the damage.
