JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - An accident on Highway 63 in Jonesboro killed two and injured one just before 10:00pm Saturday.
The accident happened near the Harrisburg Road exit on U.S. 63.
According to Arkansas State Police, there were two women and one man in the vehicle. One of the people in the vehicle was ejected during the accident.
The driver, Gloria Taylor, 17, and passenger Whitney Blake Rogers, 16 both of Bono were killed in the accident. The lone survivor, a 17 year old boy, was sent to St. Bernards Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
Senior Corporal Doug Thomas with Arkansas State Police said the sport utility vehicle was traveling South on Highway 63 when the accident occurred.
"Vehicle in the process of changing lanes due to heavy traffic and over corrected when they changed lanes," Thomas said. "Lost control on the shoulder. The vehicle overturned in the median and came to a rest upside down in the northbound lane."
Corporal Thomas told Region 8 News that not all of the occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the wreck. They don't believe speeding was a factor.
All three teens attended Westside High School. In a statement, Westside Superintendent Dr. Bryan Duffie said counselors will be available to help students, staff, and families through this tragedy. Duffie also commented that the entire district extends its condolences to the families affected by this tragedy.
