JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas State Police say a Lonoke County deputy shot and killed a man who reportedly struck a patrol car repeatedly with a large piece of metal.

Authorities say 32-year-old Dustin Williamson of Lonoke was standing along Arkansas Highway 294 between Jacksonville and Furlow at about 9 a.m. Thursday. Authorities say the man was acting erratically and swinging a large piece of iron.

Authorities say when a deputy arrived - Williamson began hitting the side of the patrol car with a piece of metal and the deputy opened fire and killed him.

State police say the piece of metal appeared to be the base of a lift used to change a tire.

The case will be turned over to the prosecuting attorney to determine whether any charges should be filed.
