SEARCY, Ark. (AP) - An Oklahoma foundation has given Harding University a $1.7 million challenge grant to use toward the construction of an $8.5 million facility that will house the Carr College of Nursing and the Communication Science and Disorders Department.
Officials announced the money from the Mabee Foundation of Tulsa on Tuesday.
Construction on the building is slated to begin in the summer and the facility should be open by the 2013 fall semester.
To qualify for the challenge grant, Harding administrators had to certify they had already raised $3.4 million or 40 percent of the cost of the project. Officials have raised $3.6 million.
To meet the final provision of the grant, officials say Harding has to raise the rest of the $6.8 million to finish the project by March 1.
