BUFFALO, Missouri (CBS/KOLR) -- No matter what Charles Greer is doing, you can be sure his goose will be at his heels. He bought the bird, that he simply calls goose, back in the late eighties. He had eight at the time, and goose is the only one left.
Charles says about a year ago the coyotes got goose's mate and ever since then, anywhere he goes, goose is honking not too far behind.
Mr. Greer lives with his wife in a quiet part of Buffalo for the most part. But recently his 20-year-old goose can't seem to get enough of him. He says, "Anywhere I go that dumb goose wants to follow me anywhere I go!"
Greer and his wife aren't 100 percent sure where the goose's behavior came from. He says, "I have no idea, unless he's lonesome!" His wife Marie says, "I have no idea, unless it was because he lost his mate and he thinks Charlie must be important to him."
They've seen a lot in their lives, but nothing like this before. Greer says, "I've never seen a goose that way, and I've talked to a lot of people about how long they live and nobody knows!" Marie adds, "Oh, I never saw anything like that in my life before."
And his family members compare the goose to something they're more familiar with. Greer says, "My great grandsons say grandpa that's your dog! I don't have a dog anymore but I've got that goose!"
Marie Greer says the goose doesn't follow anyone like he follows her husband. She says, "Sometimes when he gets behind he will fly just a little bit, and it's just kind of funny to watch him follow him so much."
Greer says it doesn't matter what he's doing, the goose mimics his every move. He says, "I back up a little bit and I stop and that goose will stop, when I move a little forward that goose would go."
Which is why he came up with a special name for him. He says, "I call him the crazy goose!"
But he doesn't mind having goose around. Greer says, "It doesn't bother me a bit! I'm used to it!"
Now we know where the term 'silly goose' comes from! Greer says he's going to send in a video of the goose to America's Funniest Home Videos to see if it wins!
