Little Rock Veterans' Home
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs has terminated Janet Levine, administrator of the Little Rock Veterans Home.
The department said in a statement that Levine was terminated after the completion of an investigation launched after receiving employee complaints.
According to the statement, Levine continued to collect fees from residents with a VA disability rating of 70 percent and above after a federal rule change ended the practice in 2009. Upon this realization the agency immediately notified the affected residents, stopped their payment and is now working to repay these fees.
The agency says they also confirmed complaints that Levine:
• Personally used items intended for residents including lancets and a motorized wheelchair.
• Violated the lease agreement on a house provided to her on the grounds by allowing unauthorized family members to live there.
• Used management tactics that undermined staff.
Patrisa Burl, the home's business manager has been named interim director will remain in this position until a new director is hired by the agency.
The agency said in a statement, "As always, our priority is the care of these veterans who have given so much to their country."
