NEW YORK CITY, NY (EarthCam/CNN) -- One World Trade Center will become the tallest building in New York City today, April 30.
Work on the new skyscraper hits that milestone with the first column of its 100th floor.
Time lapse photography gives us a quick look at the effort from the beginning.
The building is being built about a pace of about one floor per week.
When it's finished, One World Trade Center will stand a symbolic one-thousand, 776 feet tall for 1716, the year America declared its independence.
The Port Authority plans to open the building in late 2013.
