AURORA, Colo. (CNN/KUSA) -- Picking a prom dress is a big deal. One teen in Aurora, Colorado has spent two years planning for the perfect one. It required her to do something she's never done before, make it herself. The project took five months and required more than 5,000 soda tabs.
When you talk about prom it's as much about preparations as it is about what you're wearing. That's why Regan Kerr decided to make her own dress. She says, "It suddenly hit me about, I don't know, maybe two weeks ago, that it was actually going to get done."
She made the dress with the help of her sister, Marlow and her friend Sara. The George Washington High School junior made her own dress that should pop, out of pop tabs. Regan says, "And, there are 5,114 pop tabs."
She started collecting them two years ago after a friend suggested it to her. She says, "It didn't take a lot of skill, I mean I was just moving a needle up and down."
But it did take a lot of time; five months. Regan says, "I thought it was a pretty cool idea. I just thought it was one of those that kind of peter out and wouldn't actually every happen."
So, did all that soda get drank by her? She says of course not! She says, "Actually, everyone asks me than I say, they're not all mine. I didn't drink 5,000 sodas."
But she did make that dress that makes Regan feel all bubbly.
