LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV)- Members of the 19th Airlift Wing gather to bid farewell to the last of the base's active duty C-130E airframes in a ceremony at Little Rock Air Force Base.
The aircraft, No. 2358, is to be displayed at the Air Force Flight Test Center Museum at Edwards AFB in California. This aircraft was the first C-130E off the Lockheed assembly line in Mariette, Ga., in 1961.
Since then, it's been a workhorse for the combat airlift mission in its over 50 year career. Officials at LRAFB say it has safely delivered thousands of airdrops, tens of thousands of passengers, numerous firefighting missions, and countless tons of cargo over the years.
