LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (May 7, 2012) - More women die of heart disease than the next four causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer.

To raise awareness of cardiovascular disease, the American Heart Association created Go Red For Women, a social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health.

Only 55% of women realize heart disease is their No. 1 killer and less than half know what are considered healthy levels for cardiovascular risk factors like blood pressure and cholesterol.

The Go Red For Women movement works to make sure women know they are at risk so they can take action to protect their health.

The Central Arkansas Go Red for Women Luncheon will be held Wednesday, May 9 from noon to 1 p.m. at The Peabody Grand Ballroom. Registration opens at 11:30 a.m.

Enjoy a heart healthy lunch and a program that includes survivor stories, plans for getting the mission out this year, and information on heart health.

The keynote speaker will be Shelia Cluff, internationally-known fitness expert, owner, and founder of The Oaks at Ojai health and fitness destination spa.

Tickets are $125 with all proceeds benefiting the American Heart Association.
