HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel says a state senator unhappy with the way his district lines were drawn threatened to work against McDaniel's potential bid for governor if the boundaries weren't reworked.
McDaniel testified in federal court on Wednesday that Sen. Jack Crumbly told him that he and his supporters would oppose McDaniel in any potential future race if he didn't "do the right thing" in legislative redistricting. Crumbly and a group of east Arkansas residents sued the Board of Apportionment and accused the panel of diluting the black vote in the district.
Crumbly was expected to testify Wednesday afternoon in the trial.
McDaniel, Gov. Mike Beebe and Secretary of State Mark Martin comprise the Board of Apportionment that redrew House and Senate districts last year.
